Public School Exit at Five Years Old: More Than an Organization; We are a Movement

“A modest idea whose time had come.”

November 14, 2023 | Public School Exit

In 2019, a small group of pioneers in homeschool and Christ-centered education met to answer a daunting question: “How do we rescue America’s youth from K-12 government-funded public education bent on seriously harming children through sexualization, indoctrination, and dumbing down?”

The query was well-timed; some might say, prophetic. In 2020, Public School Exit (PSE) formally launched as a 501(c)3 organization; the same year schools were shuttered during the worldwide Covid pandemic. Housebound children began to expose secret agendas learned behind schoolroom doors far from the peering eyes of parents.

A few brave souls had, for decades, seen past a carefully laid façade, proclaiming to any who would listen that public education was not only unredeemable, but created to brainwash impressionable students. These forerunners broadcast through lectures, interviews, videos, books and articles, a sordid history of Marxist indoctrination vying to mold the futures of next generations. Respected peers and colleagues decried their efforts, denied the possibilities, and turned away, refusing to listen.

Now a team pressed on to see families freed from the public-school matrix. On March 31, 2020, PSE was publicly launched. In a press release, PSE CEO Dran Reese, president of The Salt & Light Council, set the bar: “Pastors and church leaders have a huge role to play in equipping congregations with a biblical understanding of citizenship, and that includes education of children.”

Lt. Col. E. Ray Moore (Ret.), leader of the Christian Education Initiative, is well-known in homeschooling circles. Moore has sounded the alarm for decades. He exulted, “In all my years in this movement, I've never seen [such an] incredible chance to rescue millions from anti-Christian indoctrination. Moore signed on as PSE’s Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Alex Newman, President of Liberty Sentinel and co-author of best seller Crimes of the Educators, travels the country, hosts a radio show on Lindell TV, is featured in documentaries, and writes voraciously detailing the many the obvious and not-so-obvious dangers the minds of children face in Public School. Newman signed on as PSE’s Executive Director. “We hope that by educating parents and encouraging them to try homeschooling amid this crisis, the movement will grow by millions,” giving public schools “a lot less victims,” he said.

Additional homeschool advocates already knew each other; on the PSE website, they found a place to combine efforts. This mission statement described modest idea whose time had come:

The mission of Public School Exit is to facilitate an exodus of American children and families from government-controlled education by educating the public and helping families. We are more than an organization; we are a movement.

Seeking to further increase educational options, there are now 19 PSE Advisors. These include a former California State Assemblyman, a Bishop, pastors, attorneys, curriculum developers, Christian founders of educational and parental organizations, and more. Former Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas, urges an immediate exit from public schools, warning, “This is part of a 100-year or 150-year battle for the souls of our children.” Advisor Diane Davis, dean of Aletheia Christian College, has brought back a One-Room School Method that modernizes the one-room schoolhouses popular in the nation’s early days.

A goal yet to be reached is to offer support programs, such as scholarships.

Several states have started chapters of PSE. These include the Illinois Family Institute, dedicated to upholding and re-affirming marriage, family, life and liberty in Illinois; Georgia-based Truth in Education, a Christian advocacy group; and Greater Than I Ministries (GTI) in Texas, offering Christian educational videos and books and services nationwide, and others. University professor Dr. Duke Pesta, another PSE advisor who runs the online K-12 FreedomProject Academy, has years of experience delivering world-class education. “With the technology today, there are no more excuses for parents to send their children to public schools,” he concludes.

Today, a wide array of educational experts and resources are available with one click to the PSE website that connect parents, pastors and educators with the help they need. This includes homeschooling options, methods of schooling, and styles from which to choose. There are links to legal resources, how to find a school that includes a school-locator map, recommended books and videos, pastors and teacher resources, news articles, and much more.

By promoting time-honored educational opportunities, PSE is coming alongside parents, churches, educational leaders, and others to educate children academically and morally, through the admonition of the Lord, who are well capable of leading America into its God-ordained future.

Point your kids in the right direction—
